SAVING OUR PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Before Kansas settlers built prisons, they built public schools. Our state's founding fathers believed so strongly in the importance of public education that they guaranteed it in the Kansas Constitution. We have had required school attendance since 1874 because we understood the connection between education and success. But today, many of our leaders no longer connect good schools with a bright future.

They have cut funding for early childhood education, even though we know it is the key to later learning. They have redirected our tax dollars to private schools. While other states invested in public education, our governor and legislature attacked the very roots of our education system, causing an exodus of teachers and administrators to other states.

If we don't make changes now, it may be a generation before our educational institutions recover. We should not wait until this governor leaves office to save our schools.

That's why I'm running for the Kansas State Board of Education. My education credentials are strong and no one will work harder for our children's future. Let's save Kansas schools together! To volunteer or donate, go to my "Contribute" page and let me know the best way for us to work together.
